Citizen-Focused Comprehensive Plan Update

The current Comprehensive Plan was created in 2014. Certain portions of the plan related to infrastructure were updated several years ago. The Comprehensive Plan is very outdated from the aspect of updating the vision, goals and objectives of the community. In short, the citizens have been repeatedly cut out of this critical process and this needs to stop. Willow Park has changed a lot over the past 12 years and I believe we are overdue for citizen involvement in revising our vision, goals, objectives and future development of the city we call home.

Update City Plans to Prioritize Neighborhoods Fairly

Fixing the roads is a huge priority for all neighborhoods in Willow Park. Unfortunately, certain roads have been reconstructed around town that were not in the worst condition. I've heard from the residents in some of our oldest neighborhoods repeatedly tell me that they feel like 2nd class citizens. I will focus on using our interlocal agreement with Parker County to repave some of our worst roads around town. The County fixes roads very nicely for a great price!

Promote Managed Growth in a Fiscally Responsible Manner

I would not call what I've seen happening over the past 8 years as managed growth, especially when the council approves higher density residential developments and apartments. I have yet to hear from anyone living in Willow Park or the surrounding areas that they want more high density growth and traffic. Citizens need to be involved in updating the vision and goals for our small city. It has become normal for council to approve development agreements that lock in specific zoning in a mixed use development. These approvals bypass our Planning and Zoning Commission and it disregards any citizen involvement in any of the public hearings required by sate law. We must stop approving all development through these types of agreements.
